"Pioneering Women of the Republic" Exhibition Comes to Ankara, the Capital of the Republic!
Curated by Özlem Özdemir and presented as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Republic by Açık Holding, the "Cumhuriyet’in Öncü Kadınları" exhibition will be open to visitors in Ankara from March 5 to March 18, 2024.
Originally launched on October 27, 2023, in Istanbul, the exhibition received great interest as it showcased the life stories of women who rose alongside the Republic. Committed to ensuring that this project reaches as many people as possible in the coming years, Açık Holding is now bringing the same enthusiasm to Ankara. The exhibition will be hosted in collaboration with Çankaya Municipality and KASAİD at the Doğan Taşdelen Contemporary Arts Center’s Füreya Koral Exhibition Hall. The exhibition will be free and open to the public from March 5 to March 18, 2024.
"Cumhuriyet’in Öncü Kadınları" Brings History to Life in Ankara
Expressing her joy at bringing this historical exhibition to the capital, curator Özlem Özdemir stated: “Last year, we brought the 'Cumhuriyet’in Öncü Kadınları' exhibition to life together with Açık Holding. Now, after Istanbul, we are honored to bring it to Ankara, the city Atatürk called his home. Through real-life examples, we continue to highlight why the Republic is so important to us women. I sincerely thank Açık Holding for wholeheartedly embracing this project and Çankaya Municipality and KASAİD for making it possible for us to come to Ankara.”
Emphasizing that this is the first exhibition of its kind, combining the strength of women with the values of the Republic, Özdemir shared details about its content: “The exhibition consists of three sections. The first section presents Atatürk’s views on women in chronological order and compares the struggle of Turkish women for their rights with global developments. The second section showcases the biographies of 20 pioneering women, merging their photographs with their life stories. The final section pays tribute to 100 women, some of whom are still with us today but remain largely unknown. With the overwhelming interest we received in Istanbul, I hope the people of Ankara will embrace this exhibition just as warmly.”
"Cumhuriyet’in Öncü Kadınları" Offers Hope for the Future
The "Cumhuriyet’in Öncü Kadınları" exhibition not only tells the stories of women who left their mark on history but also offers inspiration through the dedication of the women who brought this project to life. Initially a dream of curator Özlem Özdemir, the exhibition became a reality with the support of Şehrinaz Kartal, Vice President of Marketing at Açık Holding. Now, as a significant milestone, this exhibition arrives in Ankara as part of International Women’s Day celebrations, thanks to the collaboration of KASAİD and Çankaya Municipality. It invites visitors to find hope and resilience in these inspiring stories.
