Atatürk and Woman
“...Let's be bold about women. Let's stop being apprehensive...Let them open to the world...Let's introduce serious science and art to them. Let's explain honour with science and medicine. Let's give priority to them to have dignity and honour ...”

“...Ladies and Gentlemen! One of the two things I want to talk about is you (addressing ladies) and the other one is you (addressing the gentlemen)... These two parts should be equal in every sense. This is what mind, logic and nature dictate. In essence, this equality between these two genders is relevant to the entire society. Therefore our women will be equal to men in science and art; in other words they will have the same maturity..."

"...A society, a nation consists of two genders; men and women. Could it be acceptable to improve the society by developing only one part and neglecting the other? Could it be possible for one part of the society to rise to the sky while the other part is chained to the ground? Without doubt, steps to progress should be taken together and amicably by both genders and a tenacious attitude should be taken again together to achieve improvement and innovation. That's the only way for the revolution to be successful..."

"A republic is a form of government ruled under a democratic system. We founded the republic; we have to fulfil all the requirements of democracy while celebrating its tenth anniversary. Acknowledging women's right is also a requirement of this. Rest assured."

“Under this resolution, Turkish women have a superior position in social and political life compared to all other nations. Turkish women covered with burqa, veil and kept behind walls are a thing of the past now. Turkish women have performed their role at home with authority and shown achievements in all parts of work life. With their experience in municipal elections in the political life, Turkish women now have the most important right: to elect and be elected members of the parliament. This right which is withheld from women in most of the modern countries is given to Turkish women today and Turkish women will exercise this right with authority and merit.”
