
Prof. Dr. LEMAN (CEVAT) TOMSU
1913
She was born in Istanbul. She started as a boarding student in Erenköy All Girls' High School when she was 5 as her parents had to move a lot because of her father's work.


1929
She enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts with Münevver Belen, her classmate from Erenköy All Girls' High School.
1932
The Project for a Dormitory for 400 Students included in the Students' Exhibition of the Academy of Fine Arts was her first published work.


1934
She was one of the two female students together with Münevver Belen who graduated from the Department of Architecture of the Academy of Fine Arts. She cooperated with Münevver Belen in many occasions in the following years.
1935
Her first professional works were Gerede and Emirdağ Republican People's Party Houses projects.

1935 - 1940
She worked in the Planning Department of Istanbul Municipality.
1941
She started to work as the first female lecturer in the Department of Architecture of Istanbul Technical University. She was made associate professor when nobody had a PhD in architecture. She worked in this position until she retired in 1981. She became a member of the Chamber of Architects.
1958 - 1959
She conducted scientific research for 8 months in the UK and 6 months in Germany.
1960
She was made full Professor.
1972 - 1978
She was sent to the UK, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the USA to do research.
1988
Leman Cevat Tomsu died proving the place of women in architecture.
